Baha Görkem Yalım

Baha Görkem Yalım is a visual artist, writer, and educator. Their practice is multidisciplinary and intentionally in flux; they do not limit themselves to a single form or medium, as the practice must retain its plasticity in relation to the ever-present desire to understand, connect, and communicate the fleeting. As such, Yalım is driven by a certain sadness that becomes noticeable when different realities exist side by side but never touch. This emptiness becomes meaningful in its own right: a space of possibility, and an object of attention in itself. Their practice operates within this space and repeatedly returns to themes such as real abstraction, ontology as reverse-engineering, unsettling advanced forms of labour division through transsexual thinking, objecthood, repetition, display, violence and love. They engage with institutions as both matters of interest and concern, approaching them almost as altered ready-mades. Through this engagement, Yalım seeks to bring criticality back to the street—to let it move down the sewer, diffuse in the air, and unfold into infrastructural critique.
